EXPLORING VIETNAMESE NON-ENGLISH-MAJORED FRESHMEN'S ENGLISH-SPEAKING ANXIETY AT A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN VIETNAM

The study investigates Vietnamese non-English-majored freshmen's speaking anxiety. 297 freshmen enrolled at a public university in Vietnam answered the Questionnaire of Speaking Anxiety. results show that participants had moderate level English-speaking anxiety, with female students having higher anxiety than male students. To provide insights into sources anxiety-provoking situations and strategies use to cope follow-up qualitative data was collected. 24 from pool were conveniently recruited randomly assigned five focus groups, who semi-structured interview questions. findings experience when they are called answer questions by their teacher class during test, make an oral presentation perform role-play front work groups.
